Pure Joy

It was a chilly day in January when my boyfriend (now husband) and I were making our way to one of the local Wedding Shows.  I had originally wanted to go to the one closer to home, but unfortunately we had missed it. My boyfriend, knowing that I would have liked to go, found another one not too far away for us to attend. He also entered a contest for us to receive free tickets and the chance to win a grand-prize Wedding Package. We, along with one hundred other couples, won the opportunity for a chance to win the grand prize on the day of the Wedding Show. In order to win we had to wait for our name to be called, and then we had to pick the correct key (which were in numbered envelopes), and the winning key would unlock the prize box. I just had this deep down feeling that we would win. I was discussing with my boyfriend what number we should pick and then all of a sudden I said God knows my favourite number; I need to pick that number! When we were called up, I found an envelope with the number written on it. I was so excited it was still available! I picked it up and shakily took the key out of the envelope and put it into the keyhole. To my surprise the siren and lights went off.

I EXPERIENCED PURE JOY IN THAT MOMENT; I LITERALLY LEAPT FOR JOY.

I was ecstatic that we won! The elation continued as the day progressed and as we thanked God for His goodness, my boyfriend seized the moment and proposed that evening.

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." James 1:2-4

It is easy to be joyful when we encounter exciting times and blessings in our lives! It is in the difficult times that we often need to cultivate that joy.

During the challenging times we need to be mindful of all of the reasons we should have joy in any situation. Our feelings may tell us otherwise, but it is important to learn to stand in that joy regardless of what goes on around us.

Have you experienced the joy of salvation, the joy of being in God's presence and the joy when you receive a miracle or an unexpected blessing?

Remind yourself of the goodness of God

during every circumstance of life.

Regardless of what difficulty you are facing today, no matter how big or small, consider it pure joy. During the challenging moments we must remember the ways that God has come through for us in the past. We must encourage ourselves that God works all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).

THAT TRUTH ALONE SHOULD BRING US JOY!

When we won the grand prize package the joy that I had wasn’t even a result of the prizes that we won; rather, it was in knowing that God cared for me. You see, I was going through a tough time and we were experiencing some opposition in our lives.

In that moment that we won I felt the Lord saying to me:

I AM WITH YOU. I CARE ABOUT YOU. I HAVE GOOD PLANS FOR YOUR LIFE. I CARE ABOUT YOUR RELATIONSHIP. I EVEN KNOW YOUR FAVOURITE NUMBER.

For me the joy was in knowing that God was on my side. I have not won every contest I have entered, but that one had special meaning and I believe God knew it.

Let us live in the joy that Christ has given each of us. Let us find our happiness in knowing that we are loved, we are His. We have everything we need. He is all we need!
