When the Pressure Builds

Growing up I loved all sports but I usually joined activities where there wasn’t much of an audience. I did not want the pressure of anyone coming to watch me, especially my family or other students. I enjoyed running, therefore cross-country and track were easy sports for me to be involved in. One particular year at the track meet I was involved in three races. The first one was the 800m, the second was a 200m relay race and the third was the 1500m. I did very well in the first two races but when it came to the third race it was a disaster.

I literally walked off the track in the middle of the race. You see, before the race started I needed to use the restroom, but I did not know if I would have enough time, so I couldn’t decide if I should just go or not. I kept hesitating, talking about it and by the time the race started I had a full bladder. Once I started running it became extremely uncomfortable.

I don’t even think I completed a full lap before I gave into the pressure and stopped. I just quit, just like that. Sure it was uncomfortable, but did I really need to quit? Why did I not prepare myself properly before the race began?

I gave into the pressure and I gave up!

The temptation to give up has never really left me. I have such great ideas, goals and dreams. I start something new and I’m excited but then the pressure starts to build. I start to feel incompetent, or fearful and then I just quit.

If we are going to live victorious lives in Christ

we must learn to keep going.

No matter how much the pressure builds, no matter what comes against us, no matter how afraid we may feel; no matter what people say; we must keep going!

God wants to see you flourish, but you cannot give up. Life can bring sorrow, hardships, and unbelievable pain, but God can bring you to the other side of whichever mountain you face today if you just keep seeking after Him.

You may be tormented with fear and insecurity but God can bring you into a confident place if you just keep going and trust Him.

You may be broken and hurting but God can heal your heart if you just keep going and believe Him to restore you.

My friend, do not give up. There are other people who need you to keep going.

Not only did I quit that race, but so did one of my classmates. She saw me walk off and did the exact same thing.

When you lose hope others around you may do the same. They may follow your lead or quit following God altogether.

I believe the Lord is calling you today to Keep Going! He is telling you, Do not give up, my child. I am with you. I will bring you through. Trust in Me, Lean on Me. Rest in Me. I will see you at the finish life with a Crown of Glory.

Take some time to reflect on the following scriptures from God's word! What areas in your life can you apply them too today.

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:1-3
