I had just gone through a pretty rough time in my life. Someone I trusted betrayed me and I was left heartbroken, confused and depressed. If it wasn’t for God’s supernatural healing I honestly don’t know that I ever would have come out of the pit that I was in. Thankfully Christ lifted me out, put a song in my heart and set my feet on solid ground. As painful as tough times can be, when you surrender that hurt to God He really does bring the beauty out of it. The healing process was not overnight; it was definitely a process. One evening while on the front row at our regular Friday night Young Adult meetings I was singing along when the pastor started praying at the front and he said that he felt there were some people who did not feel worthy enough to worship God.
That was me! That was exactly how I felt. Even though I had worked through so many negative emotions already, this was one of the lingering issues I was still facing.
The pastor asked those who felt that way to go to the alter. I was one of the leaders; “how could I go up”? And then I said to myself, “how can I not go up”. I pride myself on being ‘real’, not pretend, not hiding behind a facade. I went up as well as many others.
The pastor prayed for each person one by one and when he was praying for me, he said;
“God loves you more than you love yourself.”
It may have sounded pretty simple and obvious to someone else, but to me it was a perfect word from God. The truth was I did not feel loved at all. I didn’t feel that God could love me. I felt ashamed and I did not feel that God was pleased with me.
The truth was that God loved me more than I could ever imagine.
I may have not loved myself very much at that time, but God loved me, and that was enough.
Learning to love myself was definitely a process, but it had to start with knowing how much God loved and cared for me.
Friend, allow me to be that person to speak directly to your heart right now.
No matter who you are, where you have been or what you are currently facing, God loves you!
He loves you more than you can ever imagine! He loves you more that anyone else will ever love you.
His love is unconditional.
If you are looking for a man to fulfill your need for love, it may fill you for awhile but it is not perfect and it will fail you. God’s love is the only love that will never let you down and truly transform you from the inside out. My prayer today is that you will experience God’s love in a deep and fulfilling way.
But because of His great love for us, God who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions. (Ephesians 2:4,5a)
The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. (Zephaniah 3:17)
God loves each of us as if there were only one of us. ~ Augustine
