Get to Know Monique

We thought it was time for you to get to know us a little better here at Her Voice Speaks.

My name is Rochelle and Monique and I joined in ministry almost two years ago. If you haven't read our official bio's you can do that here -

On today's blog, Monique will answer some questions that I have compiled for her in order for you to get to know her on a more personal level. I hope you enjoy reading her answers as much as I did.

Monique, which food do you enjoy eating the most?

Although I’ve grown up in a West Indian family eating Jerk chicken and curry goat, I gotta say, I love me some good old pasta! I know, it’s not at all West Indian, but I will pick pasta any day over jerk anything.

What scripture has made the biggest impact in your life?

The scripture that has impacted me the most is taken from 1 Thessalonians 5:24. I discovered it one day while reading of one Priscilla Shirer’s first books (before I knew she was The Priscilla Shirer). The book quoted this scripture and I literally felt it leap off of the pages and it has since been implanted on my heart. I’ll never forget, in that moment I felt God saying to me, You too will write books and speak to women. Ministry is within you.

1 Thessalonians 5:24 NIV

“The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.”

What is your most enjoyable childhood memory?

My most enjoyable childhood memory was when I entered a speech competition at my school in grade 6. At the time, I thought nothing of it. But when I won first place out of all the students in my class, and all of the students in my school; I realized I was onto something. I then went on to compete in the regionals, but I only came in second place. I was a little disappointed, yet still very proud and in shock because this was the first time in my life that I felt good enough and worthy of any winning. This was the first time that I discovered I had a gift that others didn’t- I had a gift to speak.

What is your favourite animal?

My favourite animal is my Border Terrier named Zena. What can I say, I fell in love with her after her first weekend with us!

Do you have a favourite colour?

Lately, I’ve been really feelin’ hot pink.

What job would you be terrible at?

Anything mathematical or scientific- those were my worst subjects. If I could, I would be a gynecologist. But since I’m terrible at math and sciences...and I’m absolutely terrified of needles, I’ll stick to what I do-teach!

What are some small things that make your day better?

Having adequate rest (that’s number 1), and a nice cup of hot tea; that makes all the difference in my day!

Are you usually early or late?

Late (sigh)...

What website do you visit most often?

I’m a Pinterest junkie! I could literally spend hours looking at different hairstyling ideas.

What age do you want to live to?

Forever with hubby. Is that an option?

When was the last time you changed your opinion / belief about something major?

Before I met my husband, I use to think the more schooling you had, the more successful you’d become. I now realize, the route to success lays in our pursuit to purpose. Follow your passion- your passion will lead you to purpose. Purpose will point you to success!

Who inspires you to be better?

Oprah Winfrey hands down.

They say that everyone has a book in them. What would your book be about?

My book would be about purpose and the importance of pursuing it with all your might. Failing to pursue purpose causes one to become stuck. And nobody wants stuck, so follow your purpose.

When do you feel truly “alive”?

I feel so alive when I’m teaching or speaking at an engagement.

What are some of your personal “rules” that you never break?

To thy own self be true. Regardless of what it is, I try my best to own my truth.

What are the top three things you want to accomplish before you die? How close are you to accomplishing them?

I want to complete a PhD, travel the world pointing others to Christ and I want to open up a school for girls in a third world country.

I’m setting up my life now to pursue these things.

Thanks Monique for giving us a peek into your life!

Even though I work with Monique and call her friend, I learned new things about her by asking some deeper questions.

It is so fun and inspiring to get to know others on a deeper level. I encourage you today to send these questions to a friend or family member to see what you can learn about them.

This coming year let's be more intentional to grow and deepen our relationship with others.
